You no doubt know Kate Cox’s story. She’s the Texas mother of two who had the courage to go to court to sue for the right to an abortion to end her nonviable pregnancy. The state Supreme Court ruled unanimously against her, and she had to leave the state to end the pregnancy.

Years ago, I had a conversation with a Catholic priest about this subject. He seemed like a good and pious man, so I asked him about the very kind of situation that Kate Cox was in. A mother who was bearing a fetus that would very likely die in her womb or certainly soon thereafter, both jeopardizing the woman’s ability to bear more children or even putting her life at risk.

He told me that, of course, the woman should have the abortion.

I knew this was against Catholic doctrine, but he acknowledged that it was the right thing to do.

When an NBC reporter asked Ted Cruz about Cox, he refused to comment and told the reporter to call his press office. She called and received no response.

This is just one of the many reasons Midwest Values PAC maxed out to Colin Allred for his race against Cruz.

Please help us help Democrats who are running for office this cycle. We will be donating to Democrats all over the country and the ground game in battleground states.

Thanks,

Al

P.S. Susan Collins called the Texas Supreme Court’s ruling on Kate Cox “a terrible decision.” She famously said she had received assurances from both Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh that they wouldn’t overturn Roe v. Wade before she voted for both.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Since 2006, Midwest Values PAC has invested more than $4 million in 341 candidates and organizations — and counting.

Of course, none of this happens without you (or supporters like you) who care enough to pitch in.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, the work is more urgent than ever. This year, we have a big job: flip the House, take the Senate, and win up and down the ballot at the state and local level.

To mark our 20th year, we’ve set an ambitious goal: 26,000 contributions by Election Day 2026.

Thanks for being part of this fight, and for sticking with us for 20 years (or for just joining — welcome!).

Al

P.S. Over the years, okay, decades, we’ve helped Democrats win tough races all across the country by investing early, intelligently, and strategically. That’s how you flip seats. That’s how you protect democracy. And that’s how you stop the worst impulses of a president who never should have been president in the first place.
