Turn off the news this holiday season

The holidays are a time to be grateful for the good things in life. And this year, all of us at Midwest Values PAC are especially grateful for you — the supporters who made it possible for us to help elect and support Democrats up and down the ballot.

This year, Franni and I are very grateful I get to spend the holidays with all four of our grandkids under one roof.

Because in a time when we’re flooded daily with terrible news from Trump and his GOP henchmen, my grandkids give me hope. They remind me why this work matters — and why it’s sometimes a good idea to turn off the news for a minute and think about what we do have:

  • We still have a democracy. (Though, yes — just barely.)
  • We still have a real chance to turn things around by winning back the House and the Senate.

And just imagine all the good we could do then! Not to mention all the Trump references we could remove — starting with his name, which he recently added to the “Trump Kennedy Center.” (That would actually require Congressional approval to make it legal, but I digress.)

For many families, the holidays may also be the first big gathering since Trump’s return to the White House. And maybe there’s a sibling, uncle, or in-law who doesn’t share your political point of view. This might be a good time to focus on everything you do have in common — like wanting a future that’s a little less chaotic and a lot more decent.

That’s what Midwest Values PAC is fighting for.

Happy holidays,

Al

P.S. Of course, this is also a time to rest and regroup before we dive back into the fight in the new year. But we’re still working toward our $1 million goal — and we’re just $76,166.36 away. So if you feel like chipping in a few (or many) dollars, I certainly won’t stop you.

Somehow, it’s been 20 years since I started Midwest Values PAC to help Democrats win elections — from progressive organizations to state legislatures to Congress to the White House — who share the values I grew up with in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Since 2006, Midwest Values PAC has invested more than $4 million in 341 candidates and organizations — and counting.

Of course, none of this happens without you (or supporters like you) who care enough to pitch in.

As we mark our 20th anniversary, the work is more urgent than ever. This year, we have a big job: flip the House, take the Senate, and win up and down the ballot at the state and local level.

To mark our 20th year, we’ve set an ambitious goal: 26,000 contributions by Election Day 2026.

Thanks for being part of this fight, and for sticking with us for 20 years (or for just joining — welcome!).

Al

P.S. Over the years, okay, decades, we’ve helped Democrats win tough races all across the country by investing early, intelligently, and strategically. That’s how you flip seats. That’s how you protect democracy. And that’s how you stop the worst impulses of a president who never should have been president in the first place.
